When the newly built Blue Gate Restaurant & Bakery opened it doors on August 4th, 2001 in Shipshewana, the entire town was invited over for dinner. As one of Indiana's largest restaurants, the Blue Gate comfortably seats 600 (more than the town's population). Built to reflect the surrounding community, the Blue Gate resembles a rambling white farmhouse, similar to those that dot the surrounding Amish coutnryside. An award winning restaurant serving a world famous Family-style meal that features pressure fried chicken and 3 other meats, real mashed potatoes, Amish noodles, plus lots of other sides and 25 varieties of pies to choose from

We went to Blue Gate after spending the day at the flea market for dinner. Even being Memorial Day and busy the food was great, full of flavor and service was top notch. Our server, Brad, was moving nonstop but was still cheerful with everyone I heard him make contact with. He had several tables so the assistant manager, Amber, jumped in and helped him out. Absolutely loved seeing the team work from those two! Thank you for great service and food.

We have been visiting the Blue Gate for decades. We watched it grow from a farmhouse to a large bustling destination and source of income for the community. The food is good, but... like many others, I think they are moving over that line of value and quality, leaving us wondering if next time we are in town if we should go somewhere else... Like I said, the food is good, but not as "Amish" as it used to be. And the price keeps ratcheting up for smaller portions... At some point folks say "I'm paying more for a little bit of meatloaf and chicken than I do for a nice steak dinner??? Why???"I understand they provide a lot to the community, and I don't want to be critical, but I have to be honest. The portions are a third of the size and twice the price. The staff is friendly however. I'm torn...

This place is huge! There is a restaurant, a buffet, a theater, a bakery and a small shop. We visited the buffet, there weren't lots of choices for lunch- beef, chicken and pork with sides. The beef was delicious! We liked the desserts ðŸ°,lots of choices! Very reasonable prices- $14.99 per person. Thank you, would visit again.
